The Beginning of our Journey

My Baby Silas,
Wow... I just don't know where this year has gone!
And I'm not quite sure what to write about. My thought on the past year? All the things you can do Silas boy? So many things swirling around in my head, but I think I'll just start from the beginning...

I wrote about your Birth Story, but I'm not sure I wrote about the "coming about" or day before you were actually born.

June 7th, 2010 your cousin Selia Mae entered the world in Yuma, Arizona! Later that day, I headed to see BJ at Beach Cities. Since I was already "over due" and had to be less than 42 weeks to be able to have you there at the birthing center, BJ felt it was time to take a few steps to help you come sooner rather then later. So, around 5pm after listening to your strong heart beat, making sure you still had enough fluid to keep you warm, BJ stripped my membranes. She sent me home with a list of a few things to get. Castor Oil, some Root Beer to take it with and some homeopathic remedy as well. I headed out to dinner with our friends, the O'Reillys and had a yummy sandwich. I hit SPROUTS on the way home, where the check out girl said she hoped I didn't have to use the Castor Oil. I laughed to myself, and figured you were just going to be stubborn.

I hung out watching TV for a bit, your Aunty Emily & Uncle Kevin came home and stopped by to say Hi around 9pm. I said I was feeling a little "crampy" and was going to go to bed and get some rest. I SKYPED with your dad to tell him it might be in the next day or two to meet you, and then texted your grandma Herring to ask for help the next day with dishes I hadn't done.

Around 10pm I started having contractions that were a little more consistent. I decided to text my doula, Kristen, and let her know what was going on. The next few hours we continued texting. I trying to monitor my contractions in between breathing, using some "hypnobabies" and stretching using the yoga ball. Around 2am or so, I started throwing up with each contraction. Finally around 4am I texted Kristen that "I didn't want to be alone" anymore and called Aunty Em to come be with me as well. Speeding up, we left for the Birthing Center a little after 7am, and you arrived at 9:55am!

I can't believe 1 year ago tonight, I started this journey to bring you into this world!

Tomorrow, you are going to be a whole year old! This year has flown by so fast my little man. Thank you for all the smiles, hugs, kisses, lessons you teach me, love you give me and for making me your Mama.

I love you baby Silas
